I feel so lucky to have met Cara and to have had her with us during the birth of our daughter. Cara was an invaluable support during my pregnancy, labour and my early weeks of motherhood. From our first meeting with her, we could see that she was very knowledgeable and passionate about helping women realize their ideal birth experience, whatever that may be. Her kindness and tirelessness encouraged me throughout my labour. When I felt like I couldn't do it anymore, Cara gave me strength and reminded me that I was doing it...and I did!

Choosing Cara as our doula was the single most important contributing factor to the beautiful, empowering, natural birth of our first baby.  Our perspectives about birth and the role of a doula aligned perfectly, and when I met her I immediately felt comfortable and relaxed in her presence - which is pretty important considering the state she saw me in during labor! During the last few weeks of my pregnancy she was an invaluable resource, constantly reminding me that she was available 24 hours a day, that no question or concern was too small.  Once labor began and she came to our home, she gave both me and my husband the support we needed to just be in the moment and not worry about what was next.  She was able to answer all of our questions (most commonly, “is this normal?”), be our cheerleader, and provide us with the information we needed to make decisions.  Her knowledge of labor and birth and her keen observation of where I was in the process allowed her to know exactly when it was time to go to the hospital, which was critical in allowing us to have the unmedicated birth we had dreamed of.

From ensuring that I stayed hydrated after every contraction, to applying pressure or massage, to telling me that every breath was bringing me closer to my baby, she was a gentle, encouraging, knowledgeable, intuitive and steady presence that we both fully trusted.  My husband held one hand and she held the other as I pushed my baby into the world. Though the pain was immense, the journey was free from fear or anxiety, and so much of that is because Cara was beside us every step of the way.  She will forever be a beautiful part of my birth story, which I look forward to sharing with my son one day!

It is difficult to put into words how wonderful it was to have Cara as a doula for the birth of our son. She was imperative in making our birth
experience successful and special and as natural as possible. Thinking back on our birth, I cannot picture it without her being there and can't imagine how we would have made it without her! Both my husband and I benefitted from her calming and encouraging presence. She did everything from holding a juice in front of my face for several hours to being our official photographer after our son was born... and so much more. She is amazing and incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and I cannot recommend her enough.

Cara was phenomenal. Prior to the birth we had a great home visit and I think really connected. She was supportive of whatever I needed for childbirth, open to medication if I wanted it, and had a gentle demeanor. In the hospital she was soothing and anticipated my needs (water, massage, essential oils), she worked with me through contractions as a three person team with my husband, she was my advocate with the nursing staff, and I just can't imagine how we would have dealt with a long and difficult labor without her calm assistance. I will be forever grateful for her. She was great with follow-up after the birth and provided invaluable lactation assistance as well.

Friends had urged us to get a labor doula, and I'm so thankful we did. Cara really took the time and effort to get to know my husband and me before the big day. She gave us lots of great evidence-based information, answered all of our questions—being first-time parents there were many—and was always respectful, making sure to include my husband. When I went into labor, she texted me back at 3am and walked me through what would happen once I called my doctor and told him my water broke. Because I delayed that call, I was able to labor at home for several hours. Later, she met us at the hospital and was there throughout 19 hours of labor, calmly encouraging both of us and offering insight to whatever was happening. After my emergency C-section, she stayed to make sure breastfeeding was established and I was comfortable. She was always positive and made the experience as stress-free as possible. I'll be forever grateful she was there for us.
